Plasma Energy Treatment Smoothes Wrinkles From Inside Out
DALLAS -- Beauty might only be skin deep, but a new wrinkle-smoothing technique
works under the top layer to deliver a more youthful look free from wrinkles.
The plasma energy
generated by the Rhytec Portrait PSR Skin Regeneration treatment penetrates the surface layer of skin to
regenerate tissue, according to Dr. Jim Gilmore, a cosmetic surgeon.
"This plume, when it strikes the
tissue, actually alters the surface and actually goes about the process of collagen regeneration in the skin,"
he said.
Doctors have said that most cosmetic treatments work in a similar fashion to peeling an
onion -- they start at the surface and work inward. Because the plasma light of the nonsurgical Rhytec
Portrait technique works at a deep tissue layer, it produces results sooner.
Lori Erickson tried the
Rhytec Portrait and said her skin showed fewer to no wrinkles as the technique's work on the tissue cells
progressed.
"More results are showing now than at the beginning," she said.
Five months after
the initial treatment, the lines surrounding Erickson's lips disappeared, she said. Treatments such as Botox
and Restylane require follow-up sessions from eights weeks to four months after the initial injections.
Doctors have reported results from the Rhytec Portrait last up to two years.
Younger patients show
better results, Gilmore said.
"The patient who's younger, in their 40s, will get a dramatic effect,"
he said.
The treatment is not completely painless. Ruth Lindsley opted for a a topical cream to numb
the area around her eyes and mouth.
"I feel like I have a bad sunburn," she said.
Patients are
free to choose a varying number of treatments that range in severity. Choices include one high-intensity
treatment or three to five lower powered energy levels, which produce less facial redness.
Treatment
costs start at $1,200 per session. Doctors warn that pregnant women, people in poor health and those who
bruise easily should not undergo Rhytec Portrait.
